Typography

I do not have a whole lot of time for commentary, but I have to post the beginning of this kick butt project I am working on. Using the word efflorescence, I am beginning to explore type forms. I began this particular image by collecting beautiful leaves and then cutting letters into them and gluing them to a branch. Voila! Now to print and continue to play…

Grey/Gray

Either way, they both work in describing the weather today.

Fire in the Sky

I was asked to choose a piece of music as inspiration for an art piece I had to make out of metal. I have always loved The John Butler Trio’s music; there is always inspiration to be had in their songs. One of their songs, Fire in the Sky, has always intrigued me. It has this awesomely great beat, but the lyrics are a punch in the gut. A realization that human beings can be total savages and kill each other and justify their behavior. The media, governments, religion all gloss over that human beings are killed and that it is alright because there is a reason.

My piece has this shiny, pretty front that has nice rhythm and harmony, but if you take the time to explore around the piece and look, you discover there is this dark, ugly back of truth and violence to it.

Of course I hope I did not degrade Mr. Butler’s music, I really was trying to do it justice.

Typography

I created a typeface inspired by the series I have been photographing…and started to play around with the type. Not sure what direction I am going to go with the poster yet, but I have have been having fun playing around with it.

A Bigger Camera

I had the little camera with me the other day when I was exploring. I returned to the same location today with a bigger camera.

I took some video, did some still shooting and overall had a great time today creating some really cool stuff.

I took my fish eye lens, tuned it backwards and held it up to a lens I already had on the camera and shot through it…cool look. How does the saying go? Once you learn the rules, it is alright to break them. Of course I have always had a difficult time following the rules in the first place.

An HDR image…well an HDR “like” image. There is no bracketing when I took this image, I cheated an used the filter in photoshop. Not too bad. I am working on a series of images titled Neglect for my media class.

I am just liking the softness on this image.

Space

Negative space is sometimes more important than positive space. But I prefer positive in my space.

Just sayin’

I did not realize how much I missed my camera and the love of photography, till I got out and explored the neighborhood yesterday.
